DHS Announces Implementation of Keeping Families Together Initiative
Release Date: August 19, 2024
WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the implementation of the “Keeping Families Together” initiative. This new process is designed for certain noncitizen spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens and aims to enhance family unity and stability. The initiative also seeks to boost economic prosperity in American communities, strengthen diplomatic ties with regional partners, alleviate pressure on U.S. government resources, and support national security, public safety, and border security goals.
By streamlining the process for noncitizen spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens, this initiative aims to minimize family separations and promote the unity of families. This is particularly crucial for families where one or more members are facing uncertainty due to complex immigration barriers.
